While shopping at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, I came across a booth selling lovely star sapphires. I decided that instead of my usual turquoise onlay and inlay, the star sapphire would look good added to one of my flutes. Actually, I made two of these, both very similar. I'm showing the photo of one as there's really not much difference between the two. Along with the strikingly figured Tiger Maple, I've inlaid Claro Walnut for the finger holes as well as on the end caps which also feature Eastern Cedar. The bird is of Big Leaf Maple Burl sitting on Eastern Cedar. This flute is in the key of F#m, which is the most popular key for the NA flute. The size is accessible for most hands and the tone of this flute is rich and deep.
