Another unique flute, this Chechen Negro F#m isn't quite round like the rest of my instruments. The wood that I obtained was just a little thin resulting in a slight flatness on the top and bottom of this flute. It has a good feel in the hands. The wood, Chechen Negro, comes from Central America. The name Chechen is a colloquial name, Chechen being the kind of wood and "Negro" meaning black in Spanish. It is actually a type of rosewood. It is very beautiful with a depth of grain brought out with six coats clear polyurethane, hand sanded between coats. I have also inlaid a strip of different colored woods along the top that similar to the inlays found on guitars. Along with that, you'll find a 5mm Turquoise cabochon inlaid between the finger holes and the true sound hole. You can judge for yourself the beauty of this rosewood. The tone is clear and tuning accurate. To hear how this flute sounds, click here for the "dry" unenhanced clip and here for the "wet" reverb sound that you hear on most Native American flute solo recordings.
