| Pictured here you see one of my Native
American style flute made from Eastern Aromatic Cedar. Easy to
play this instrument has a wonderful tone and is available in basically any
key from a high Am to a bass Cm. The most popular key is F#m followed
closely by Am, Gm and Em. (Natural color of wood varies. Most have some red
heartwood and some cream colored sapwood.)

of F#. Click on this link to hear a flute
like this
sounds in the key of G. Please note that this flute is representative of the
flutes available. Each one will vary somewhat in coloration due to differences in
the wood. Each one is beautiful and unique. There will never be another quite like
yours. This flute will, however, be one of the showpieces of your collection
with it's consistently sweet tone and accuracy of pitch. As with all
Laughing Crow flutes, Not only can you
play the traditional Native American Pentatonic Scale, you will be able to
play the extended scales and the relative major diatonic scale (do, re, me,
fa, so, la ti, do) with this instrument.. Eastern Aromatic Cedar is one of
the
favorite woods used for Indian Flutes not only for it's unique beauty, but
also for it's sweet and clear tone. It's a soft wood, but dense enough to
bring out a clear, round tone. The red portion of the wood is heartwood,
while the cream colored part is sapwood (closer to the outer circumference
of the tree). Eastern Aromatic or Eastern Red Cedar is traditionally used by
by Eastern tribes as it is an indigenous wood for the Southeast as well as
the wetter mountainous areas of the West. It's fairly easy to work by hand
and the maker is rewarded with not only the wonderful smell of the wood, but
also the satisfaction of creating a beautiful piece that has the haunting,
mystical sound that has captured the hearts of so many. |
Testimonial from "Old Mike":
Richard,
I received the flute today. It is a beautiful flute and sounds
great! I don't know if there was a mix up or what, but this
flute looks like it's worth at least $250.00. I know you said
that you would make me a pretty flute that played good (Eastern
Aromatic cedar medium flute, F#M @ $175.00). The one that I got
is way beyond what I expected. It's such a beautiful flute.
Thank You for you time, and may God Bless you and your work,
Mike Mosby

Pictured above, is an Am Eastern Cedar Flute

Lower keys will be larger, like this Fm flute above and the Cm
flute shown below.

Hi Richard,
I received the F# Eastern Aromatic cedar flute yesterday. I was expecting a
concert tuned flute that was a work of art with a voice and range that would
blow me away.
Well...you exceeded my expectations! When I took the flute out of the bag, it
took my breath away. The sweet voice and range of this flute is awesome!
I own flutes made by Brent Haines, Ed Hrebec and Gary Kuhl and let me say, for
the money, your flute beats them all! (please don't raise your prices :)
although you could)
My next purchase is going to be a drone flute ,I'm not sure what key I want yet,
but I am sure of this, it will be a Laughing Crow flute!
Thank-you Richard,
Paul from Massachusetts
